The
Mountains of
Summit County, Colorado

Buffalo Mountain (12,777 ft) is a massive dome at the southern end of the Gore Range.  Its eastern profile is well known to travelers on Interstate 70.

The turning of aspens and a dusting of snow on Buffalo Mountain are clear signs of autumn in Summit County.

Lake Dillon and the Tenmile Range The Tenmile Range splits the southern end of Summit County into two valleys, the Blue River and Tenmile Canyon. To the south it is connected to the Mosquito Range in Park County.  To the north (immediately to the right of this picture), it is separated from the Gore Range by the mouth of the Tenmile Canyon.

In the foreground is Lake Dillon.

Red Peak (13,189 ft) shares its name with several other Colorado Rockies.  Our Red Peak is the first mountain north of Buffalo in the Gore Range.  Here it stands watch over the town of Silverthorne. Red Peak
Mount Guyot and Bald Mountain Mount Guyot (left, 13,370 ft) and Bald Mountain (right, 13,684 ft) are prominent heights along a part of the Continental Divide that forms the southern boundary of Summit County.

Grays Peak, the snow pyramid on the right, is the highest point (14,270 ft) on the Continental Divide.  The second highest point (14,267 ft) is Torreys Peak, the pyramid in the middle.  Grizzly Peak (13,427 ft) is at the left.

This picture was taken from Keystone Stables (9,300 ft).
