Lake Dillon is the largest body of water at this altitude (approximately
9,000 ft) in North America. It is literally surrounded by the Rocky
Mountains, which form a wrap-around backdrop thousands of feet higher.
With continuous scenery like this, it's a shame you still need to duck your
head under the boom when coming about!
The lake is 5 miles long and more than 1 mile wide with several
embayments and islands, and a convoluted 27 mi shoreline.
The water is cold, clear, pure and destined for Denver on the other
side of the Continental Divide. The wind is nearly always up, and
nearly always in all directions!
