The Frisco Crags carry a four-star rating in the rock
climbing guides. Highly visible from I70 as it enters the Tenmile
Canyon, the Crags rise 1300' directly above the town of Frisco. Steve
Mammen popularized the Crags for several interesting problems in bouldering.
But this wall offers opportunities for a variety of rock climbing techniques.
The parking lot for the Ten Mile Canyon National Recreation Trail at I70's
Main St. exit provides instant access. high perch above the Interstate |

Perched above the Ski Tip area of Keystone is this wall. The rock is metamorphic. The vertical pitch is over 100'. The parking is right below along the Montezuma Rd. This is only about a mile from Tenderfoot Lodge -- if your rack has not grown too heavy, use the bike trail for a quick warm-up! |
| A very short distance further up the Montezuma Rd are
these nice spires on the south slope of Porcupine Peak. We suppose
they should be called The Quills. Many rock climbers have escaped the hordes at The Gunks and Eldo. We spy them on the many precipices of Summit County. The High Rockies are not yet described handhold by handhold in all the guidebooks. We suspect these hardy pioneers prefer it that way. |

| The only indoor climbing wall in Summit County is at the Breckenridge
Recreation Center (970-453-1734). A visit just might yield contacts
with kindred climbing spirits.
