    Rafting in the Rockies

Summit County sits at the top of the finest rafting opportunities in Colorado.

Downstream to the north is the Gore Canyon of the Colorado.  The Class 5 adventure begins just below Kremmling, where our Blue River joins the upper Colorado River.  Kremmling is 45 mi from Tenderfoot Lodge via CO 9.

Downstream to the south is the upper Arkansas River, one of the best known rafting areas in North America.  Browns Canyon, Pine Creek, The Narrows, and The Numbers provide rapids from Class 2 to Class 5.  Water management on the Arkansas keeps stream flow up long after the snow melt.

Downstream to the east is Clear Creek. The snow melt provides nearly non-stop whitewater.  The usual put-ins are between the Eisenhower Tunnel and Georgetown.

Downstream to the west are rapids of the Eagle River, including the Dowd Chute.

An excellent trip for novices and families is Browns Canyon in midsummer.  The half-day launch site is near Nathrop, about an hour away from Tenderfoot Lodge over Hoosier Pass.  A better option in the spring runoff is really close at hand -- the Blue River action is continuous and low risk.

Professional rafting outfitters frequent all of these and several more.  You'll find their brochures at all the usual places.
