Tenderfoot Trail lies at the foot of its namesake, Tenderfoot Mountain.
Tenderfoot Mountain is actually the end of a short spur ridge that comes
off the Continental Divide near Loveland Pass. The trail gently switchbacks
up the lower slopes and never reaches the top of Tenderfoot. The vistas
are of Lake Dillon, the Tenmile Range, the town of Dillon and its Marina,
Buffalo Mountain and the southern Gore Range, the Continental Divide peaks
beyond Swan Mountain, and the Soda Creek community. Precious few short,
easy hikes anywhere can match it view for view!
The Forest Service and local hikers maintain this trail. The
southern slope dries out quickly in the spring sun. From Tenderfoot
Lodge take Highway 6 west almost 6 mi to the first traffic light in Dillon,
turn right and immediately right again, park opposite the Forest Service
work area. Start behind the Dillon water tank along the jeep track.
After 500 yds the trail leaves the jeep track through a stile in the fence
on the left.
