    Old Dillon Reservoir Trail

The trail to the Old Dillon Reservoir is the best hike for kids in Summit County.  Just enough length, heighth, obstacles underfoot, and change of scenery to keep the little hikers engaged but undaunted. This tiny reservoir served as the water supply for the the old town of Dillon, now drowned beneath the waters of Lake Dillon.  Peak One and Buffalo Mountain are nicely reflected in the old pond.  An overlook along the way provides a panorama of Lake Dillon and the mountains to its east and south.

The trailhead is an official but easily missed parking lot among the trees on the Dillon Dam Road.  Find it between the Dillon Overlook and the the Heaton Bay NFS Campground and on the side of the road opposite the lake.
