    Summiting Mount Sniktau

 

 

 

Mount Sniktau is the easiest of Colorado's many Thirteeners to climb. You have a head start from the top of Loveland Pass.

Mount Sniktau stands just east of the Continental Divide within view of its highest points Torreys and Grays Peaks. The heights of the Front Range, Gore, Tenmile, and Mosquito lie in every direction.

Starting at Loveland Pass at nearly 12,000 ft., the entire path to the summit of Mount Sniktau at 13,234 ft. is well above treeline. Alpine rapidly become tundra. Look closely among the rocks for the perfectly camoflaged ptarmigan.

The trail up Mount Sniktau starts at the top of Loveland Pass, 8 mi. east of Tenderfoot Lodge on US 6.

This trail sees very heavy use. Please try to stay on the well worn places and save those tundra plants any further abuse.
