| Summit County is composed of the entire headwaters of the Blue River,
including the Upper Blue, the Snake, the Swan, and Tenmile Creek.
The Blue River between Lake Dillon and Green Mountain Reservoir is one of just ten Gold Medal Waters in Colorado. Fly-casting is seen all along the parallel stretch of Highway 9. No place is more popular than just below the Dillon Dam right underneath the Interstate bridge in Silverthorne. Lake Dillon is well known for Rainbow and Brown Trout and Kokanee Salmon. Its extensive shoreline and the ready availability of both boat ramps and boat rentals make it a popular fishing destination. The backcountry of Summit County offers many opportunities for fishermen willing to carry their rods a mile or two. The best known are Willow Creek and Willow Lakes, Rock Creek, Wheeler Lakes and Mohawk Lakes. Brook and Cutthroat Trout are the most common goals. |
